President's message

Dear McGillean, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you to the Department of Electrical, Computer & Software Engineering. You will soon enter the wonderful world of circuits, RAMs & ROMs, and the debugging of the thousands and thousands of lines of codes you wrote over the past year. Yes, I know, you can’t wait to get your hands dirty. But guess what? ExCESS, short for the Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering Student Society, will not allow you to drown into just work. You will get an opportunity to showcase some of the talents you thought you never had.

Over the course of the year, ExCESS will try to organize events that will aim to get your mind off work, at least for a while. Why? That’s because “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, and I’m sure you don’t want to be that Jack!

For starters, make sure to participate in the ExCESS Used Booksale in the first couple of weeks, and avoid spending sacks full of money at the McGill Bookstore. ExCESS organizes a foosball tournament every year, with some great prizes. You will also get an opportunity to get your skis on, and fly down a mountain, through the ExCESS Ski Trip. You will, of course, always be welcome to hang out at one of the finest common rooms (TROT 1060) you’ll see at McGill, and mingle around with the coolest people. To wrap up the year, the ExCESS Banquet will allow you to dress up for a very fancy dinner at a very fancy hotel, where tons of prizes are given out.

All in all, I wish you all the very best for 2006-2007 and hope you are able to achieve and even surpass your goals. But remember to have fun and get involved with ExCESS!

VP External's message

Hi! I am this year’s VP External and I am very excited to help organize all sorts of fun activities for you! My main responsibility is to get sponsorship from leading companies in the field of electrical, computer or software engineering. I will also be around during the year to plan events, get-togethers and eventual world domination.
I ask only one thing in return for my hard work: that you get involved in making this year an unforgettable one for the whole department. This means sharing any ideas or requests that you have for our department with me or any of the other council members, coming to our wonderful events and maybe even becoming a council member. So please, don’t be shy, get involved and have some fun!
Have an ExCE(SS)llent year!
