Canadian Undergraduate Technoloy Conference

The CUTC, held once a year in Ontario, brings together many of the country's best and brightest undergraduate engineering students. This 3 day conference hosts a variety of activities including Technology Workshops, Seminars, Panel Discussions, Technology Expositions and Think Tanks. Keynote speakers feature some of Canada's top IT leaders. The CUTC gives our students an opportunity to interact with undergraduate students from other universities, gain knowledge and expertise, and participate in friendly competitions.

This past year was the first time McGill participated in the conference. With a delegation of just four students, we were very successful and were placed first in the "Let's Do Business" competition, a technological business planning workshop. ExCESS is determined to send a larger delegation and achieve unbounded success and accolade.

Committees

A pioneer in developing student life at McGill, ExCESS represents the students of the department in various committees such as the faculty and departmental level Student Issues Committees, Equipment Fund Committee and Course Curriculum Committee. These bodies facilitate discussion between students and professors and strive to improve student life, address grievances, and solve specific academic issues. ExCESS members are also actively involved with the McGill Engineering Career Centre (MECC) in organizing the Tech Fair which provides an opportunity for corporations to reach out to students and meet potential recruits.

Academic Activites

ExCESS organizes academic lectures touching on a variety of topics which include nanophotonics, optics, and microelectronics. These lectures are either given by a professor or a graduate student in the specific field. The goal of these lectures is to provide information that is of interest to our students, in a non-classroom atmosphere. Peer Advising offers first and second year students the opportunity to meet with senior students to organize their course schedules and discuss certain aspects of their curriculum.
